PSYCHEDELIC DESERT GROOVE (1996): A balance of wind, tide and consistent deep ocean swells are the factors that control the destiny of the Billabong Super Challenge. Occy discovers that the challenge begins with the first step. 8 of the world's best surfers discover big clean gnarly barrels in the contest that will not compromise. Starring Mark Occhilupo, Luke Egan, Ross Williams, Kalani Robb, Martin Potter, Rob Machado, Paul Paterson, and Shane Dorian. 9 LIVES (1999): The last of the Billabong Challenge series, Challenge four, in Indo, and Challenge five, in Australia. Indo did not deliver the surf necessary to complete one round so it was cancelled until the following year. Starring Rob Machado, Kalani Robb, Luke Egan, Shane Dorian, Tom Curren, Sunny Garcia, Mark Occhilupo, Taylor Knox, Pancho Sullivan, with appearances by Margo and Kelly Slater. Winner of "Surfer Magazine Video of the Year Award" 2000 Best Cinematography Award.

WIDE OPEN (1998): The winners of Seven international Billabong regional events were invited to compete in the 1998 Billabong Junior Challenge. This 1968 release is a compendium of the changes in Australian surfing over the proceding decade. It covers the arrival of the Malibu board and charts the rise of Midget Farelly and Nat Young to international prominence. With footage from most of Evan's previous films, it shows Midget surfing as a 13 year old, as well as in the Manly World Titles six years later, along with Nat's performances in the Peru and San Diego World Champs.

This earned Doc the status of being the first surf photographer. He shot over 900 pictures in and out of the water in the 1930’s and early 1940’s. He was close friends with Tom Blake who originally inspired Doc to swim in the surf with a camera. Doc shot stills of such a high quality that future photographers including Don James and Leroy Grannis tried to emulate him. 
“Doc Ball ~ Surfing’s Legendary Lensman” covers Doc’s relationship with the Father of Surfing, Duke Kahanamoku. See never before shown clips of Duke clowning around. Doc details the evolution of surfboard design which includes Tom Blakes contributions to surfing like the skeg and Hawaiian Hollow Board.
Producer/ Director Carl Ackerman worked closely with Doc for seven years on this project. This film includes a breathtaking sequence of 92 year old Ball bombing a hill on his skateboard. Surf movie madness reached its peak in Australia in the mid '70s when it seemed that every second week, a new surf film reached our shores and did the circuit of clubs and halls. There was a lot to choose from too - everything from the latest from McGillivray-Freeman, to those from local filmmakers, one of whom was Steve Core.

Released in 1975, Ocean Rhythms captured the cream of the first wave of pro surfers competing on the Aussie circuit at Bells, North Narra, and Newcastle and although the surfing here is first class it's familiar territory, as is the footage of a brief sojourn to Bali. However, the real strength of this film lies in the other footage he has captured.
